What Makes An Eye-Catching Website?: The Ultimate SEO 101 Guide
When was the last time you went searching for answers on the second page of a Google search entry? Chances are, you probably haven’t in a while. Google, and other popular search engines rely on the SEO (search engine optimization) of websites to pick and choose which websites are optimized for the top of the search list, ensuring that you don’t have to keep scrolling aimlessly to find what you’re searching for.
SEO is the process of improving a website’s traffic by utilizing key words, links, and phrases that can be easily found through popular search engines like Google or Bing. This article does an excellent job at breaking it down simply. It’s crucial that websites pay particularly close attention to their diction choices, especially those in website and article title headers.
If you’re sitting down with a Google page filled with results, what draws you in to click a link? Usually, it’s the attention-grabbing title, as well as the informative excerpt that elaborates just enough with key words to make you want to click and read more. This week, I dived deep into some of my favorite South Asian bloggers’ websites, and took a closer look at how each website’s keywords sparked interest in me:
1. Seemona Rahman
“I am a Bangladeshi world traveler, based in New York. I teach people how to see the world without living a nomadic life. I am here to help you have the best trip as a solo traveler, couple or parent. If you have questions about a destination, looking for travel inspiration or need a trip plan, you are at the right place!”
The bolded key words drew me in immediately, especially as a fellow Bangladeshi myself. I’ve always felt as though traveling would be nearly impossible with my lifestyle currently, but after reading Seemona’s outlook on seeing the world without living nomadically, it resonated deep enough to where I want to consider incorporating travel in my life whenever I can.
2. The Brown Van Life
“The Brownvan Life is commited to spreading awareness of alternative life and work choices for people of minority. Having grown up to follow the traditional path we found ourselves yearning for more outside of four walls.Using the form of photos and videos, we spread the important message of diversity in the outdoors and educate the possibilities of alternative living.“
Honestly, I follow an obnoxious amount of van-lifers on YouTube, mainly because it’s a lifestyle I’ve always considered to be fascinating. Having your entire life loaded onto four wheels seems daunting at first, but I especially love how The Brown Van Life highlights the importance of understanding and respecting alternative lifestyles. It’s incredibly refreshing seeing a South Asian minority couple pursuing this lifestyle, especially because a lot of the other van-lifers I follow are not.
3. Nabela Noor
“My name is Nabela Noor and welcome to my channel! I am a plus sized, Muslim, Bangladeshi-American entrepreneur, author, designer, self-love advocate, and self-care expert. I love encouraging people to celebrate their pockets of peace in each day. On this channel, you’ll find a little bit of all of the things I enjoy – from beauty to fashion to lifestyle and cooking and homemaking. I believe that each day carries a few moments of goodness, and that we deserve to enjoy them. I hope this page helps you in your journey towards celebrating those moments and ultimately, celebrating you.”
I have always loved how limitless Nabela’s content really is. Not only has she written a children’s book, but she’s also even created a non-profit girls scholarship program based in Bangladesh. I love her use of diction to describe the work she does, so I’m always clicking to tune in. I especially love her modern homemaking content, as it’s centered around “celebrating the simple moments of goodness in each day. From decor inspo, delicious recipes and self-care tips to the viral Pockets Of Peace series, Nabela Noor Home is a hub for all things comfort, intentional living and home inspiration.”
